100 Hula Hoops (The Tender Corner of His Heart)
Though few recollections of her father are joyful,
His immoral heart having caused more pain than pleasure,
There comes a satisfying kindness to her face
As she remembers his gift of the 100 Hula Hoops.
She sees again, through her childhood eyes,
That glimpse into the tender corner of his heart.
She remembers the delight on his face, and
The thrill of his knowing he could still make her smile.
It is important for her to forgive his transgressions,
After all, in spite of everything, he did love his children.
And the 100 Hula Hoops were testimony to that,
A declaration of his true intentions.
That is why, when her mother brought out the old photo,
She was amazed, and maybe disappointed, at seeing
That wide, bright, proud smile once again,
And the five Hula Hoops hanging from his arms.
