Tam O’Shanter

If I could write of all my travels

It would fill this entire book.

I’ve been to more places than most,

And I’ve hung from all sorts of hooks.

I’ve ridden atop curly mops,

I’ve warmed some shiny chrome domes.

There were times I flew across courtyards

And times I wished I’d been left at home.

I’ve been sat upon while my owner slept on the train

And kicked to the ground to make some space.

Other times I’ve been held like a precious gem

By my owner until gently put up in place.

Write Around Portland Workshop Summer 2010

The facilitator spread a bag of different objects on the table and invited us to write something in the voice of an object of our choice. I wrote in the voice of a knitted tam-o’shanter

Prompts:

“In my world…”

or

“I could teach you…”
