Write A Recipe

Write a recipe for life.

Something simple and quick;

Maybe sweet and sour,

Maybe firm and thick.

No, no, no. That’s much too…

Well, it’s just too serious!

Write it sweet and tart,

Add ingredients mysterious.

Then serve it hot or cold,

Serve on paper or fancy plates.

Be sure to prepare enough

So everyone can have a taste.

Though this ends the recipe

The pen still must move;

Writing words, inking the page,

With thoughts on how to improve.

I signed up for a workshop with Write Around Portland, and one of the assignments was to “Write a recipe” and we were given 6 minutes in which to do the assignment, even if we could not think of anything to write, we were to put the pen to paper and keep writing the entire time allotted. The above poem was what I came up with.
