Fall Rain

Every fall, after a dull hot summer

I yearn for the sound of rain on the patio floor.

Northwesterner by birth, the rain is essential

My energy is spurred by it, making me want more.

Sprinkles, downpours, mists and showers

Quench my thirst for the comfort of closeness.

Family members huddling around the table,

Sharing a hot meal and much verboseness.

Many around say “Rain, rain, go away.”

But they only want the easy parts of life.

Me, I welcome the struggle to cover up

Those problems of which my life is rife.
