Feigning

And here we are again,

poking and prodding the brain

cells, coaxing them to wake

up and work. “What?! What do

you want?!” they say, feigning

ignorance.

Yes, feigning ignorance, as

if I am asking them to write

an essay in perfect,

grammatical Greek. Ha!

That shouldn’t be as difficult

as they make it out to be!

“It’s all Greek to me,” they

like to say." So, write

Greek!" I say.

Still, they stare blankly

At these pages, unable to

contribute even a rhyme,

bored, uninterested, nothing

stimulates them.

“No. Not tonight,” they say.

There was too little living

today to spur any emotions.”

And they turn their backs on

the pen, feigning slumber.
