Hold On

This is one of my favorites

I love the stickiness

that pulls the dirt away

lifting up tiny hairs,

bits of sand.

I love the stickiness,

its determination to hold on

as if only acid bleach

can disencumber it

determined to hold on

yet willing to give in

to the persistent insistence

of the modest entreaty

Yet willing to give in,

to the humble appeal,

the tenacity of calm

and persuasive advocacy

to let go
