I Made My Song A Coat

I made my song a coat

Out of concern for its health

If I let it out unprotected

It might go unfelt.

It might go unfelt by the masses

It may not withstand the cold

And uncaring crowd’s disdain

I wanted it to be brave and bold.

I wanted it to be brave and bold

To be heard in every weak heart

I wanted it to be welcomed

To play a major part.

To play a major part it must

Take its place, be strong and loud

Make every note have meaning

It must blanket the sleeping crowd.

It must blanket the sleeping crowd

Must make them feel they float

On sound waves soothing and smooth

So I made my song a coat.
