It Flies By

“It flies by” he says

With such reassurance,

As if anyone could do it.

If he only knew

What all I went through

Maybe I would be convinced.

But I’m not easily convinced of

Much of anything anymore,

Not in politics or love or war

Cuz I’ve been around awhile

And though I may smile,

I really do keep my eye on the door.

For here I am again in another

New situation

Meeting strangers, hoping to make friends

Yet, even though I’m enthused

I fear I will only lose again

At the game of making connections.
