Memorable Gifts

You ask about presents which meant a lot.

Well at my age I recall few that I got.

But there were 2 impressive gifts from the past:

One, completely useless, brought me a laugh.

The second is still thrilling at the thought

For it was a gift that my father had brought.

The first, from my mom, a gleam in her eye.

I looked at it, then at her and asked “Why?”

The present that she had given to me

Was one of those “As Seen On TV.”

A beater of eggs, an electric spear

You poke in the eggshell and let it whir.

It beat one egg at a time then you hoped

Those SIX D-cell batteries could cope.

But it was the surprise gift from my daddy

That will forever make me feel glad. He

Dropped it off, Mom wouldn’t let him inside.

But I clearly understood as he winked a goodbye,

And discovered an abundance of love and pride

Wrapped in a 3 foot doll dressed up as a bride.
