Missing Her

He wandered through the park

with his dog at his side,

deep in thought,

not seeing that the hound started to lag behind.

He was in another world, place, and time,

one that he had tried to shelve.

But he could no longer pretend

that she didn’t matter.

And when the rain began,

he didn’t notice.

It didn’t disturb him now, or then,

when they walked hand-in-hand

over these same trails.
