Poet Wannabe
I had to get away.
I just had to.
Away from the shoulds, the whys
And OMGs reported in the news.
I didn't want to be part of all that.
So I drove away.
Packed the camping gear, some food and the dog
And just drove away.
To another world.
Another world with lots of empty spaces,
Spaces large enough to accommodate my world.
In my world, today,
I am a poet. I walk along the river
Gathering the fuel to lay upon the fire.
The fire called Poem.
I imagine I am the author of a book,
Where I describe to some other struggling
Poet Wannabe how I created
My own world-stopping verse.
But the pen stops there.
I had so many plans.
Plans to write, to read, to
Study the work of others
Plans to fill this book
By the end of day 2.
(Where are we? Page 14 so far?)
Then reality set in.
I am the Poet Wannabe.

Trying to do poetry exercises from the book
Poem Crazy. None of them inspired me.
Just holding the book in my hand, and reading
quotes from other poems does, though!
