Someone Knocked

Someone knocked.

There was no answer.

The door opened,

But the room was empty.

Though there were fresh flowers

In a lead crystal vase,

And the floral scent permeated,

The room was empty.

The book on the side table

Was laid open with eyeglasses

Lying in the crease,

But the room was empty.
