To Make Happy Memories

What I wished for you

was happiness

What I tried to provide was

a means of joy

What I hoped I was doing

was being creative

To make memories which

you could employ

Memories of happiness and

feeling loved

Memories to keep you safe

in your self worth

What I wanted for you was

what I never had

Assurance that you were loved

from the moment of your birth

You say you can’t understand how

I could endure the mess

You say you try but it just isn’t

the same

As when I helped roll out

the flour

And helped you bake your

name

What you need to grasp,

to learn

For the sake of your own

little ones,

It doesn’t matter how you

Manifest your desires

Your wishes, your dreams for them

It just has to be fun!

Diary Poem 12/07/10

Prompt: My daughter had sent me a long email reminiscing about our

Tree Trimming parties when she was young and how

I made Christmas’ “magical.”

This was a response to that.
