Don’t Look Back

The trick is, I’ve heard them say,

When you’re in the race, don’t look back.

Keep your eye on the road ahead.

Don’t let yourself get off track.

Well that’s probably good advice.

But who can resist that backward glance,

That little sideways glimpse to make sure

You are ahead, you are far in advance?

But stay focused on the prize, on the goal.

Don’t let yourself stumble, trip and fall.

Keep going forward, jump every hurdle.

To keep yourself ahead of them all.
