No Flood Today

Well, there I was in my usual space

Wondering what would happen next

But I couldn’t think past that minute

Stuck in the here-and-now, totally vexed.

So I took a deep breath, closed my eyes,

And listened to the tiny sounds whispering

Whispering to me “It’s okay. It will be fine

Calm soothing, soft as a cat’s whisker.

I opened my eyes and all I could see

Were the heat waves of steam

Wafting up from the damp roofs

No flood today to prompt my screams
